Abstract

The goal of this talk is to demonstrate and discuss a new solution to the long-standing problem of integrating sound and multi-media with the X Window System, under a common standard, in a common code release, and under the same "X" license. The project we will describe is known under the acronym "MAS", and is open to public view at www.MediaApplicationServer.net. "MAS" has been developed with the collaboration and support of the Audio Task Force of X.Org, the X Window System Standards Group, as a new standard technology to be publicly released as official, integrated, basic, X Technology. The first public integrated release is targetted for late 2002 or early 2003.

The paper will include topics from the following:

Performance data MAS Scheduler Algorithms MAS MasterClock interface to platform time and timing Synchronizing Keyboard, Display, and Sound using the X MAS-Extension XProtocol messaging using the MAS X-Device Dynamic network latency management Using the RTP Standard to support MAS Protocol for WAN and LAN MAS wrappers for clients and plug-in devices Using "ANX", the Audio Nexus The MAS Media Controller Accessibility tools
