Travel directions to Linux-Kongress

By car

From Düsseldorf/Neuss: Take Autobahn A57 to its end in Cologne. Leave it turning right towards "Lindenthal". Follow the "Innere Kanalstraße" and, after about 4 kilometers, its extension, the "Universitätsstraße". The street passes below the university's main square, "Albertus-Magnus-Platz", marking the center of the university. To get to the Department of Physics make a U-turn (there a sign showing "Physikalische Institute/Chemische Institute") at the 4th traffic light and turn immediateley right into Greinstraße (there the same sign again). You are now just below the Uni-Center, a large three wing building. You can use the parking area below it for free. When you managed to get a slot for your car there, you can see a white flat building (Chemical Institutes). Pass it on it's left side and you will see the entrance to similiar, but somewhat flatter building on left side - this is the entrance to Linux-Kongress. (See dotted red line on map.)

At the next traffic light, turn right onto the Universitätsstr., after about 200 m you will see a sign "Physikalische Institute/Chemische Institute" showing to the right. By rail

From "Cologne Central Station" ("Köln Hauptbahnhof/Hbf.") you can either

  1. go by train to "Cologne South" ("Köln-Süd"). There, take the exit at the front of the station (seen in the direction of travel), leave the station straight on through the "Otto-Fischer-Strasse" and enter the park at it's end. Immediately in front of you, you see a flat white building, these are the "Physical Institutes". Take the entrance at the left side. (see dotted yellow line on map)

Note: When coming from the south (through Bonn), it might be somewhat faster and cheaper to change the train at "Bonn Hbf" into a regional train going directly to "Köln-Süd". In this case you are coming from the other direction so you have to take the exit at the back of the station (seen in the direction of travel).

    or

  2. take No.18 underground/tram to "Eifelwall" station. On the right hand side, you see a little park. Enter this park and you see two large flat white buildings, the right one of them are the "Physical Institutes". The main entrance to them is just where the two buildings meet. (see dotted black line on map)
